Many use the "Logitech Extreme 3D Pro", and it's under 30 bucks. My friend has one and it has held up pretty well.

You really don't need a joystick to fly better. I found it even more difficult to aim with it. Let me give you some advice
1. I think this one is the most important. Air radar. When you fly with the radar you spend more time looking at the mini map. You can easily predict the moves of enemy jets that are trying to shoot you or if you are trying to shoot them.
2. Don't press shift while turning off. You can also read this during the map loading
3. If you fly low above the ground you disappear from enemy radars.
4. Use objects like mountines to avoid missiles that are locked on you.

good trick is to bind Space to nose up, lets you manuever without moving your mouse and losing aim etc.

Have you tried changing mouse axis? I think that in defoult settings when you pull the mouse up the jet goes down and vice versa. For me it's way better to pull the mouse up when my jet goes up either. That's how it worked in bf2.

I used to use a joystick, but now I just use my mouse.. still getting used to it since the mouse can only do whatever you assign it to, but you're limited to 2 axis.. you still need a 3rd one for yaw, and I use A and D for that... I just find an empty server and play around to get used to it

Yeah, I read that thread through and again just now to see if I missed something, still nothing. I know the JS is working since I calibrated it through windows. I tried using it with and without the Logitech software as well.

It's weird, I cleared all the commands for KB/M so now when you get into an aircraft, there are the prompts that tell you what keys to use, but now there is no key associated if you know what I mean. It doesn't show any of the keys that are bound for the JS.
