What I have been up to recently

Thought I would drop in and let everyone know I am still alive and kicking. Plus show what I been devoting a lot of my time to recently. Lot still going on with work and my relationship but both are going very well. I have started doing some woodworking, my father had a very good ability to make things and it appears that after actually trying I have some of that talent too. So here is a cabinet that I recently built. It started with the concept in my head and took a month or so to figure out all the details before I could even by the first board. Have a new appreciation of what it takes to do this now just becuase I had to figure it out completely in my head and on paper before beginning. My new projects go a lot quicker since I understand how to think it thru now. This was made as a storage in one of our bedrooms. It was made from blondewood and then stained cherry. I will also say if you had a passion that you thought about getting into or trying, do it. I may look at doing this as my retirement job once I finally retire in a few years.

Well maybe here in the near future I will get some time to come in and game a bit. I will also post my current project when its finished. It is a miniture treasure chest for my girlfriend's birthday. Still have a bit to go before its completed. Until I can get back in and shoot at you all, may your gun never jam!

Nice work WolfFang ! Woodworking is one of my hobbies also, but I haven't done any in a while. Is it just the angle that it's  photografted or is that  cabinet tapered ? If it is , that was a very ambitious first project ! Great job ! ! !

Thank you all for the compliments. Cake it is partly the photo but the top part is slightly bigger than the remainder of the cabinet and sits on top of the bottom portion so it does give it a tapered look in the photo. I had to do some squaring after my cutting, I learned that what you cut with is just as important as being meticulous about my measurements. So although it is square (I am actually amazed it turned out as square as it did for my first time) it took some effort to make it that way. It took a long time to finish because I had to take my time and correct mistakes along the way. But now that I learned those lessons I expect my next big project to go quicker and more smoothly.

As I mentioned before I am now working on a miniture treasure chest for my girlfirend's birhtday. Figured I would share pictures of that although its not quite finished. Still have to put the straps on the top and ring pulls on the side. But it came out better than I had anticipated from the plans.

Neat. Next up.. computer desk? :)

I've tried my hand at woodworking, but anything beyond in/outdoor household structures, I'm pretty useless.

Going to place any goodies in the chest?

Hmm that's an idea, Abram. I have a decent one but I'm not totally happy with it, so might have to design one then make it. As for the goodies, more than likely but have some time to be inspired before her birthda

Thanks for the idea Abram, I have come up with an idea of what I want and am currently drawing out my future computer desk! Stay turned for future pictures of that project!
