Considering a 6 core i-7 5820k (vs. quad core i7-4790k) for my new rig, which I want to order ASAP. I guess the direct question is: Is it worth upgrading to DDR4 and the x99 chipset vs the old DDR3 and x79 chipset? According to one forum I read there is no gaming advantage vsx79 2 card sli, but will there be in the next 3 to 4 years? My old build was upgrade able for 5 years and I would like to be able to do the same with this one. HOWEVER, is this technology so new that I need to let the dust settle before we really see any significant advantage? The DDR 4 RAM is expensive right now, but I could do it. THOUGHTS and SUGGESTIONS? Thanks, Bolt

No, stay with DDR 3. In 6 yrs down the road or maybe more the ddr4 will be level with DDR 3 in price. Get your self a i7 4790, sabertooth mobo, DDR 3 no lower then 1600mhz. PSU no lower then 850 and get a couple 120 ssd and through them in raid 0 or 1. The reasons behind this is that 120's are cheap and if one fails it don't cost much. If any ?'s I'm here

Cyberlexe: Is it worth the expense to go to next level CPU/RAM . It will probably increase costs by 50 % , but not show, significantly, in game play. So I am going to build on Johnny's (and Tom's hardware forums) advice.

Johnny (and all), here is what I am thinking of getting...
1. ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 MOBO, lga socket1150, 1866 mhx DDR 3, RAID, SLI $ 180.00
2. Intel quad core i7-4790 4.0 ghz, up to 4.40 ghz $ 340.00
3 TWO ASUS GeForce GTX 960 STRIX Factory Overclocked, 2 gb DDR5 (OSU-102846744) $ 420.00(for both)
4.Crucial MX100 512 gb SSD with encryption, SATAIII $ 190.00
5. Seagate Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive , 7200 rpm $ 55.00
6. 12 gb Corsair Dominator 1600 RAM (I already bought for old rig, was gonna start with this) $ 150.00
Total: $1335.00
Gonna use my old Cooler Master HAF tower.
Should I just get one Nvidia GTX 970 for $340.00 instaed of the 2 GTX 960?
Thoughts on this rig?
THANKS!

Get the "K" variant of that CPU of you want to overclock.. Which you do. It's easy and quite safe of you take baby steps. And a decent cooler, of course. Even a $25 cooler will serve you better than the stock cooler.
