May years ago i used to work at a Hardware store in my local town for about 8yrs.
I was happy there, great customers and work, it was run by a Father and son JT & GT, JT purchased the Busyness 20yrs before i got there and it was going well, it was not the only Hardware store in town, in fact it the smallest of the 3 but people did like going there to shop. The owner JT was a bit of a hard nut when it came to staff but i just played along, but over the 8yrs he made a lot of staff members almost 20 (mainly new) leave!. He told me when i first got there that he "Wanted someone to take over so he could retire" and that he didn't want his own Son to take over.
But he was stubborn, didn't want to give up "His Store" and refused to listen to reason, and 6 weeks after i too left (medical), he had to close the shop and all was lost.
If only he listened, if only he let go, or even stepped back, maybe instead of bellowing "This is MY Store" and "This is not a democracy, my word is final" he could have said "You know what, i think it's time for me to step down as CEO", and "It is more important that the Busyness & Family continue, than me being CEO", he could have stepped back with grace, honor and dignity.
I thank him for all i learned there, i did enjoy my time, i loved the customers and miss working there even though i can't work anymore.
This was a true representation of my time working in a Hardware store and is in no way a reflection on recent events.
Thank you for reading.
