lets say PC gamers are a quarter of the market share (i'm being generouse). that means of 10,000,000 people 2,500,000 are pc gamers. sure its $60 we pay for it but they don't sell it to companies at that price so lets say they give game places a deal at $40 (after all gamestop needs to make money too). then subtract some for printing and packaging and employee costs. also add the cost of Their IW.net and upkeep .lets say that makes the game $15 net profit.
10,000,000 * 15 = $150,000,000(if everyone bought the game as of right now)
2,500,000* 15 = $37,500,000(PC gamer loss because they don't have dedicated servers)
that means instead of making $150,000,000 they are only gonna make $112,500,000
thats a huge chunk ($37,500,000). if you add a little bit of programing to allow dedicated servers and get rid of IW.net you can say the Net profit jumps to $20.
10,000,000* 20 = $200,000,000(if everyone bought the game with dedicated servers and scratch the IW.net idea)
lets say now because they went this way 500,000 people stole the game online
500,000 * 20 = $10,000,000 (loss due to theft by torrents etc)
200,000,000 - 10,000,000 = $190,000,000
so that means they are only gonna make $112,500,000 net profit instead of the 190,000,000 they could have made
190,000,000 - 112,500,000 = $77,500,000
thats $77,500,000 they are giving up i think thats a pretty large chunk lost.
(i have no idea what i'm talking about but it sounded nice. everybody else was doing math so i decided to join in)
