I've had/tried ATI in the past, had a few issues and went back to the Nvidia. I am an Nvidia at heart. I recently had the Nvidia 280 GTX I bought 1 yr ago, acutally die or give me a prob under a load. So I just purchased the Nvidia 470 only yesterday. Waiting for it to come in with in the next couple of days..

Shown here:  Nvidia 470

Nvidia rules! Has built in physics processing that ATI doesn't have. Loving my recent upgrade to GTX480!

I've had plenty of cards from both companies and I like them both.   For me it really depends on the best performance/price ratio and that tends to change every year.  I upgraded to Radeon 5850 from GTX 275 because BFBC2 was running a bit sluggish, and I couldn't wait for Fermi at the time.  I haven't regretted my decision.   Very Happy

I have been an Nvidia user since I built my first box - in the mid 80's. I'm currently running dual GeForce GTX285 SSC in SLI - that coupled with the i7-965 processor running at 4Ghz - every setting on every game is max'ed out - with no performance issues what-so-ever. Looking to upgrade to the new EVGA GTX 480 in the near future.

Why won't ATI be around much longer - they are owned by AMD and I doubt they are going anywhere???

I'm not as sure as WannaB about ATI/AMD's demise, but they've been in financial trouble for about 4 years now. When AMD bought ATI, ATI was about to go bankrupt. AMD has lost HUGE market share to Intel and has stopped even trying to compete on the uber high level chips. AMD's in better shape than they were 18 months ago, but it certainly isn't 2 chip giants battling for top spot anymore. AMD's the little David battling the Goliath that is Intel. And ATI is a small division of AMD. If AMD stubbles, ATI would be sold or shut down.

Nvidia, on the other hand, is a stand alone corporation in good financial shape.

That's just my opinion on the business structure of the 2 companies. They both build good vid cards now, and I hope they continue to compete on a high level.

Hah see i said Ati Wink Ati is simply the brand name.

AMD has been using the Ati name for quiet some time now but has been leaning on phasing the name brand of "ati" out of the business for some time now. One thing that really let ati users know this was going to happen was when they merged the ati website with AMD. Sooner or later you wont be seeing Ati on the cards @ all just AMD's logo.

As for what sonic said, nvidia and ati only own a small portion of the graphics cards market. In all reality intel is out on top, in which most people wouldn't know seen how nvidia and ati fight all that time ^_^ Neither of which wants to mess with intel xD In all honesty i would love to see Intel buy nvidia. Talk about an awesome merger! AMD is already working on a hybrid chip-set that combines the processor and the graphics card. Id love to see intel's i7's get combined with the new fermi's ( no not the 480's the new ones coming after them )
