Constructive Criticism

Hey guys,

Here's the deal... We recently had someone leave partly because of me giving constructive criticism... I don't really know why, but he must have misunderstood my inentions (or something...).

So that's why I'm posting this. Constructive criticism is something we have always done within the graphics area of the forums. This is probably 75% of what makes us better. It gives us the opportunity to hear the opinions of other artists about our work.

We DO NOT do it to put other people down. We only do it to better eachother.

I encourage all the graphics team members to give constructive criticisms of eachother's work.

Thanks,
Immolation

BWhat I try my best to do is give what I like about something, and then what I don't like or would possibly change, and then I also give suggestions along with it.

It's not necessarily negative, because just telling everything you don't like about something isn't helpful at all. All that says is you suck and I'm better than you, which isn't what we do here.

The Internet is bad for constructive criticism. You can't read tone or gesture. So you have to make it veeery polite...

Immolation I couldn't agree more.  Going through art school we were encouraged to walk around and see what other people were doing.  That way you get inspiration, you can offer tips when you can so that you all learn collectively instead of everyone learning everything on your own.  You also receive help when you might need it or just a nudge to get you on the right track.  Talking about what you're doing helps you solidify your own ideas and be sure that you have a clear idea of where to go next.  It's a great thing!

I saw the post in question and I don't know what the problem is.  If someone asks a question and then gets grumpy about the answer, perhaps they didn't really want the answer.  Fishing for compliments is a waste of time for everyone involved.

Bottom line, I am TOTALLY in support of constructive criticism and I welcome it from anyone.

I am relatively new here, but I will put my 2cents in on this matter.   I am a frustrated artist....lol, I will admit it!     I have never taken any art classes and only dabble with art, but I always love and actively seek feedback (constructive criticism)  on everything that I do not just art.    I appreciate others taking time to help, direct, encourage, and  support me in my endeavors.  I have come to learn that sugar coating and marshmallow fluff really do not help me improve my skills or my ability to reach my maximum potential in anything that I might decide to tackle.  Also sometimes I feel we all just get so focused on something, that we can not step back and take a look at the big picture, and that is where others can help us the most.  This community I feel is the perfect "Polite and Friendly" environment for us all to share ideas, knowledge, skill sets and to get better at many things.....not just shooting people in an FPS.  (okay do I get a penny back for my thoughts?)

Here's your change! (dink!)

Kula, you made me think of something that I often do when I get stuck on a design:

Stop working on it and leave it alone overnight.  Then look with fresh eyes in the morning.  This usually works wonders for me.  On the Undead sig I just did, I got frustrated and stopped.  The next morning I looked, and threw out most of the  layers I was using and started in new direction and you can see what came out of it.  It really helps.

Kula, stand by for more feedback from bilbo!

thats why i mostly don't post any CnC for the graphics here.....
and i think it's better to get some CnC from sigresource.com or new-gfx-community.de (we have some english/us users there and you're always welcome  ,i think special for the new ones in the GFX-Team it is recommanded to visit one of these sites to improve their skill)
