BC2 Servers Closing...

Sadly due to in activity we are going to close the BC2 servers. We are still very interested in future battlefield games like Battlefield 3 but at this time I think it would be best to close the server. It cost almost $40 a month to keep the server going and the activity has only gone down since Vietnam came out.

We will still keep the TS channel for BC2 and support the players how we can until the new Battlefield game comes out.

The server will go down at the end of this billing cycle some time this month.

I understand why it had to be done. I enjoy and feel the Vietnam expansion was worth the money.  I must say I and my team mates find ourselves ending up back in servers running the map pack 7 maps. Large maps with limited choke points and the option of being a long range sniper or an in your face tanker are the bees knees. Smile There are still some great HC 1000 ticket servers out there.
BTW, I just read that Battlefield 3 will not run on Windows XP. It's a Direct X 11 thing.  Looks like I will have to bite the Windows 7 bullet.

It's great to know that i just throwned 7$ in the drain for BFBC2... at least i didnt bought the Vietnam exp yet.
Hope the Black ops servers will not die for the year to come as im gonna buy it next month.

Its weird that with that amount of members we cant affoard 40$ a month....
Yeah yeah, i know, no donation obligation.....but still...

Rifledan, we still can play as a group, the friends list in BC2 makes this quite easy. just give a shout out whenever you wanna play for a bit, and I'd be more than happy to join you in bringing some BK wrath to a random server. (provided im not the only admin on...)

Yea, I really enjoyed BFBC2 as a very different gaming style than the CoD games, yet once BOps came out, I haven't played it once.

It was a fun diversion between the releases of W@W and BOps, but as they say even some good things must come to an end.

I will certainly give 3 a serious look when it comes out.

Possible Release Revealed for Battlefield 3
12/20/2010 Written by Adam Wolfe

The Battlefield series has been a long and successful franchise — easily one of EA’s most popular first-person shooters. During this generation of consoles we were introduced to the Battlefield: Bad Company games. The original sold rather well, but it wasn’t until the second one that the sales took off, and the online really felt like it was perfected. So, the question is, when do we get our hands on a third installment? EA’s CEO has the answer.

In a recent interview, John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, was discussing the state of EA’s FPS franchises and how they fare against juggernaut Call of Duty. While discussing that, he mentions that he doesn’t think Treyarch, the team behind Call of Duty: Black Ops, has proven themselves to gamers just yet, and that EA can rival the powerhouse franchise with their own IPs. He then moved on to the 2011 releases and dropped some very interesting news.

“next year we’ll make a lot more progress. We’ve got a couple of third-party games in the form of Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm, and then our big focus is Battlefield 3 in the second half of the year. I’d be shocked if we didn’t take a notch out of [Activision].”

So it looks like EA is set to release Battlefield 3 at the end of next year, which should be interesting since Call of Duty releases annually that time of the year to capitalize on the holiday sales rush. This is definitely shaping up to be quite a battle, and should be interesting to see how much EA can cut into Activision’s profits.

Look for more information as we move into 2011.

Its not that we couldn't pay for the servers but why pay $40 for a server that sits empty 90%+ of the time. I talked with NQSonic and we agreed it was time to let the server go. BK members can still play together as they do now on other servers.

WAW server still lives on!!! Think that still pretty cool since Ops came out still seems to be going strong. Sorry for the lost server for those that enjoyed it. Cheer up there's still plenty of people to game with in the other servers. Cool

Doesn't have anything to do with Vietnam, other servers  stay full.  All those spirited past discussions here at bk on server mgmt come to mind.  Don't know, doesn't matter, have teamspeak will travel....

For those that have expressed interest in playing bc2/vietnam, add me to your friends list in game (no, not steam).  There is an active group of bk and non bk folks that play everyday and is a real hoot Smile

BC2 is still the best well rounded total combat experience on the market.  Large maps, air/land/water vehicles, team play, squad play, objective based (no mindless TDM here), healing, reviving, repairing, it's the complete package.  Dice continues to impress with Vietnam, the maps are breathtaking, while the graphics engine has been further optimized yielded full usage of graphics card and high frame rates.  I suspect  Vietnam isn't more popular is do to folks that can't handle iron sights on their weapons....

For the price of three cups of joe at Starbucks, it's a great addition to BC2, and rivals the competitors full games.
