Here is a helpfull Black Op secret for would be players....

Change floating name size above players heads for better viewing.

A good thing to do if you are having problems reading names are identifying names before you fire is to increase the players name above their heads.
to do this follow these simple steps.

1) open your console by pressing ~ key
2) type nam and see a list of things to change includeding "cg_overheadNameSize"
3) hit your down arrow key to highlight it and press enter and place a 1 there for size. (Default is 0.5)
4) hit enter again and close the console by pressing "~"

There you go bigger names above heads but beware to big will be more problems then the suggested size of "1". I tried 2 and it made them big enough to be a pain in trying to see through them. Smile
Have fun enjoy will post more Black Ops secrets when I learn them are discover them by trail and error. Very Happy

Bonehead go to settings and then game, from here you need to make sure the console in game option is set to yes. It is turned off by default and it will also reset sometimes if your game crashes. If you also have set your config file to read only it will not stay set, you have to make sure "read only" is turned off for your config file or any in game change you make through the console will not change.

That did the trick, thanks WolfFang. I knew it had to be something simple.

tried it, hit ~ then typed nam, scrolled to overheadnamesize, hit enter, press 1, but when I hit enter again, it sends the "overheadnamesize 1" to chat, then when I go back to check it, it is still at 0.5? I do not know what is going on... but after it sent that command to chat 2 times, someone told me to stop trying to hack, which I was not doing, so I decided to stop and ask what I am doing wrong, before someone reports me saying that I am trying to hack. anyone have any ideas ?

Whilst this is technically a 'hack' this is a variable that the developers have provided. Obviously by default it is quite small, 0.5, so by setting it higher, the player tag is larger and allows you to distinguish friend/foe - useful to avoid team-kills.
The best way to do this is to use notepad to open the mp_config.cfg file. There's a couple of other forum posts that lists some of the things that can be changed.
Check that you have permissions to change the file though. Also, the game itself may try to reset these.

Neat. Now it should be easier to spot names when someone goes running past....
