HEHEHE I wish I coulda been there to watch everyone run Like Kids on a playground. We Live with them Every Day In California, Most are so small you cant even feel them. But I was here for the 89 quake, and it Scared the Feces outta me. Being a California Native, a 5.9 is no worse than getting on a roller coaster

It was felt all the way up to Toronto...and down through the Carolina's...I missed it but that's because at the time I had workers ripping apart my front steps...figured it was just them with the jackhammer...

The last one that rumbled NJ was at 10:30pm and I thought a big dump truck had rolled by...it lasted maybe 40 secs or so...people forget that we ARE on a fault line...just not as active as others are...

@ Nub...

I lived out in CA briefly, but while there several quakes hit and I never felt any of them...like you said, it's commonplace out there...

We had a little one (5.Cool here in Colorado on Monday.  I didn't feel it because it was in the south near the New Mexico border.  Seems to be spreading! Smile

I felt it here in PA. too. I had to go into work for a bit to help, they evac'd all the buildings in downtown Wilkes-Barre. People were freaking out.

I work down in Chalfont, we felt it, but they didn't stop work or evacuate anyone at our place.

I was in the car when it happened and didn't notice but some friends/relatives here in NewEngland felt it.  I was in a 3.2 in Maine about 25 years ago and it felt like the house dropped a foot.  I've heard we here in NE perceive smaller quakes as more than they are because we're mostly on bedrock versus Cali on softer sedimentary layers.

I was watching the World Series when that hit.  We didn't feel it up in the Sierra Nevadas though.  But you are right, a 5.8/9 is the sort of thing that just keeps California cows happy.  Check youtube if you need to understand that statement.

How bout this. I work in Short Pump, Richmond 2 days a week. I was there Tuesday. Just so you know this is about 22 miles SE of the epicenter. So I got to see all the virginians who have never been through one freak out. Lasted a good bit of time too. I lived in Japan and have been through a 6.8 combined with a Tsunami. I was about 30km from the coast. This was like farting into a waterbed compared to that one. But everyone was ok and the University was open for evening classes. No injurys and the university building took no damage. My concern is the upcoming hurricane that will go right over were I live in Chesapeake VA. I'm looking forward to that....Not. For all the east coasters about to get hit...be safe and you are in my prayers that the storm doesn't do to much damage.
