So... what is your prognosis? Gonna get yourself zapped by a lithotripter? Sm all enough to pass on your own?

Sorry to hear about it Photek.
It's caused by a build up of uric acid in your system that isn't being flushed quickly enough.  I suffer from it too, but in me it manifests itself in the form of gout.  Your family may have a pre-disposition to this  -  my father got kidney stones but not gout, whereas I get gout but not kidney stones.
An increase in uric acid in the system causes it to crystallize.  In your case, it goes to the kidneys in the form of stones.  In mine, it goes to the lower joints and causes inflammation and pain.
There are a couple of ways that you can manage it.
If you become a regular sufferer, you may need to consider medicare such as Zyloprim or Allosig.  It's a single tablet daily that has no side effects, and pretty much eliminates the problem.
In the absence of medication, the easiest answer is to increase your water intake.  It may have you going to the bathroom more, but it's a small price to pay compared to the pain of Kidney stones.
Stay away from acidic foods such as tomatoes, and foods such as shellfish, and limit alcohol intake.
Ibuprofen is a short term solution that, if continued, can lead to stomach problems (including ulcers).
Lok after yourself mate!
Kind regards,
Flanno

I have had one the size of a dime and they used sonic waves to break it up to the size of sand particles.  I also had a stint inserted to relieve the kidney that was blocked before the sonic treatment.  I will say there are a lot of things you can do to help prevent kidney stones, according to my research.

1.  Drink more water

2.  Avoid strawberries

3.  Try and drink dark beers if you drink beer.

4.  Avoid salt or reduce the amount of salt eaten.

Hope this helps, get well soon.

I've had kidney stones 6 times and each time I went to the hospital. It only shows I don't show discipline with what I eat and do. They say it is like having a baby and I have to agree 6 times!
I wouldn't give up peanuts and mixed nuts and strawberries, etc.
