I've been using these for a few installs, and they work pretty well. Since i do a LOT of transfers over my network, these tweaks are nigh essential. I run mere 5400rpm drives on my hTPC and it even help with transferring to and from those. naturally, most of the tweaks have to be set on both ends. And they are easy to undo, if one desires.
Yes, these are compatible with Windows 7. Not sure about 8, though.
If your NICs and router support Gigabit speeds, set all to "1gb Full Duplex", which can be set in the Device Manager. This saves a bit of time the machines usually take in negotiating speeds.
