Good News

Hello BK:
Just thought I would spread some good news. After about 200 hrs of classroom , practical skills assessments, and studying. I passed my national exam yesterday and I R now officially an EMT. I still have a state exam this Tuesday because Washington hasn't adopted the national criteria for some silly reasons. Once the state exam is out of the way I will begin a Paramedic Assistant Program with North Country EMS out here in the Yacolt and Amboy area in southwest Washington State. This is a career change for me at the age of 53 and like so many of us, after 17 years with Hewlett Packard, they said goodbye because everything is now made in grass huts somewhere. I have also joined my fire district (10) as a volunteer and will go through their fire academy in May and I hope to obtain my "red card" for fighting wild land fires. Where does all of this come from? I just missed the Vietnam war as they stopped the draft 2 weeks before I turned 18. I was very disappointed at the time and saw no reason to join if I couldn't go kill the enemy. So this is my chance to serve my country now and I have never been this excited about going to work! Alright you dog faces at ease and carry on!

That's great Chill !

What a great, positive path to follow after the HP thing went south. I'll bet you're going to end up ALOT happier with your new career choice and I guarantee you'll sleep better, and feel more fulfilled.

Thank you for being one of those people in the world who is there to help others when help is needed most, and for your service!

Thank you all for the good wishes, you're a great group of people. I will be doing a physical "agility" test on Monday for the PMA program. I have to run a mile and a half in under some time adjusted for my age, they didn't say what it was though. I ran one yesterday and I can hardly walk today lol. Hopefully the're using a sundial to time me with. Then I have to fetch a 180 pound dummy from the woods and carry it a 1/4 mile out. Firemans carry I guess. Then I'll need a couple of martinis for the pain.
Thanks guys and God Bless
