Well, something got my computer in a mood, and I am having a devil of a time getting it back in some sembalance of working order.
basically, It decided to corrupt some critical components of windows, as well as all of my RAID controllers and drivers. so suddenly the computer found itself "without" any HDDs. Also, because the raid controllers and drivers have been removed, it cant detect the disks, even for a reformat, and because I am foolish, I have no backup (which i have since remedied, provided i can recover my data...)
So I bought myself a 180gb SSD and loaded a fresh copy of Win7 onto it, then had to wrestle the computer into finding the raid array, to attempt to save my date (which I hope will be ready for backup some time this evening, if the RAID recovery software works as advertised). Then I have to back everything up, and probably do a fresh and clean reformat on all of the drives at once, using the RAID array as a data store, and the SSD for operating system and such (I think the reformat is needed, as i had to have the SSD in a non-RAIDed SATA socket to get it to show, because no controllers...)
anyways, I will be back up whenever I can. I'm off to sea the next 4 days, so wont be able to get back to my keyboard until Wed night/Thurs morning.
Moral of the story, have a bloody backup! I hear Google is soon to have something like Carbonite... maybe worth checking out...
SFC.Braxis*BK*
PS. has anyone else set up an SSD and raid array pairing? know any tips and tricks, or best ways to go about doing it?
