Only an i7 3770k chip away from having new system ready to go.
As regards my steam games installed on the existing box. What's the best way to make sure they are migrated over to the new box, including save games?
Do I have to redownload them all or can they just be moved?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

a couple of things:
1) any game in your steam library that has the Cloud icon next to it is automatically backed up on the steam servers; save games, profiles, preferences and all. So these can either be migrated or just re-installed.
2) for games that do not have the cloud icon, or just so you dont have to re-download and install anything, check out this guys tutorial.
Migration Tutorial This tutorial is more for between harddrives on a single computer, but there is no reason that you cant do it via an external harddrive.
Hope this helps!

One nice thing about Steam is that most games keep everything in the Steam folder. Me, I prefer to make Steam Backups of my games (once they are updated) and burn them to a disc to avoid having to download those updates again.
Though if you are to save configuration files, some may give you problems if they use, for example, a screen resolution/refresh rate combo that a new computer may not be able to handle. Some games recognise the change and will offer to reset, some will not.
