Shattered Horizon (SH) is a brand new, PC exclusive game from Futuremark Studios.  You may know futuremark from their "3D Mark" benchmarking tools, but this is the first game they have made.

The premise is Multiplayer-only Team space-based FPS.  2 teams are spawned in a cluttered asteroid field, only with a jetpack,a rifle, and 4 grenades.  oh, and a spacesuit.  Let the mayhem begin.  Sounds simple, but the added bonus of having combat in Zero-G adds a huge dimension that other games lack.  You have to think in a completely different way, as enemies can literally come at you from any direction.

This is a computer only, dx10 game.  So, if you have xp, sorry, your out of luck (you backwards cheepskate Very Happy).  Now, I have a computer that can max the settings, so for me, the visuals and particle effects are spectacular.  SH is based on Nvidia's PhysX engine, and it shows, as firing your rifle, and even getting shot will change your speed and direction.

Pros:
- dx10 only, so very pretty if you can run it.
- fast combat, easy to jump right into pickup games
- intuitive controls
- spectacular visuals throughout

Cons
- very high system requirements limit the client base
- no options of weapons, one rifle, and smoke, stun or frag grenades (tho IMO this is not a huge detractor)
- very limited options of game type and levels (at time of post 5 levels and 3 game types)

Bottom Line:  A fun FPS made for Uber-geeks, by Uber-geeks.  SH provides a fun and interesting game mechanic that separates it from most other FPS MP games, both in its simplicity and its out-of-the-box thinking.  And for $20 on Steam, can you really pass it up?

8 out of 10
